What I liked most about this movie is that it doesn’t rely only on superhero spectacle. There is also a personal story underneath all the action. Peter is dealing with loneliness, responsibility, and the consequences of everything that came before.

Tom Holland remains the heart of the movie, while Zendaya, Mark Ruffalo and Jon Bernthal add even more familiar faces to the story.

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is a completely different type of action movie.

Instead of superheroes or modern warfare, Nolan takes audiences into ancient mythology and follows Odysseus on his dangerous journey home after the Trojan War.

The story includes monsters, battles, ships, mythical creatures and enormous set pieces, but what makes it special is the scale of the storytelling.

Matt Damon leads the film as Odysseus, with Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o and Charlize Theron among the major cast members.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from Disclosure Day before watching it, but Steven Spielberg’s involvement immediately made it one of the more interesting action releases of the year.

The movie mixes action, mystery, science fiction and drama around one enormous question: what would happen if humanity discovered that we weren’t alone?

Emily Blunt leads the cast alongside Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson and Colman Domingo.

What works for me here is the mystery. Rather than throwing every answer at the audience immediately, the film builds tension around what is happening and what the characters are actually dealing with.

If you already enjoy The Mandalorian, there is a good chance you will have a great time with Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu.

The story follows Din Djarin and Grogu as they take on another dangerous adventure in the Star Wars universe.

Jon Favreau directs the film and also serves as one of its producers. Pedro Pascal returns as the Mandalorian, while Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White are also part of the cast.

The movie has plenty of Star Wars ingredients: space battles, aliens, blasters, creatures, large-scale action and, of course, Grogu.

This is the movie I would recommend to anyone who wants something different from the usual Hollywood superhero formula.

Blades of the Guardians: Wind Rises in the Desert is a Chinese martial-arts action film directed by legendary filmmaker Yuen Woo-ping.

The story follows Dao Ma, a bounty hunter who accepts a dangerous escort mission to Chang’an. Things become much more complicated when the person he is protecting turns out to be one of the empire’s most wanted men.

The cast is another major attraction. Jing Wu, Nicholas Tse and Jet Li bring serious martial-arts experience to the movie.

Crime 101 takes the action genre in a much more grounded direction.

Directed by Bart Layton, the movie follows an experienced jewel thief whose carefully planned crimes attract the attention of an obsessive detective. An insurance broker also becomes connected to the operation, creating a complicated relationship between the characters.

Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Halle Berry and Barry Keoghan lead the cast.

What I enjoyed about this movie is that the action doesn’t completely take over the story. It is more interested in the people involved, their motivations and the choices they make.

For pure fighting-game action, Mortal Kombat II is hard to ignore.

The sequel brings back the fan-favorite characters and introduces Johnny Cage into the central conflict. The heroes must face Shao Kahn while fighting to protect Earthrealm.

Simon McQuoid returns as director, with Karl Urban joining the cast as Johnny Cage alongside Adeline Rudolph, Tadanobu Asano, Hiroyuki Sanada, Jessica McNamee and Lewis Tan.

This isn’t the movie I would choose for a deep character study.

I would choose it because I want fights, characters from the games and a straightforward action experience.

And sometimes that’s exactly what I want from an action movie.

Masters of the Universe was one of the year’s biggest attempts to bring a classic franchise back to the big screen.

Directed by Travis Knight, the movie follows Prince Adam as the Sword of Power leads him back to Eternia. He discovers that his home has been devastated by Skeletor and must embrace his destiny as He-Man.

Nicholas Galitzine plays Adam/He-Man, with Camila Mendes, Idris Elba, Jared Leto, Alison Brie and Morena Baccarin also appearing.

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is probably the strangest movie on this list, and I mean that in a good way.

The sequel brings back Samara Weaving as Grace, who becomes caught up in another deadly game. This time, her estranged sister Faith is involved, while several powerful families compete for control.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett return to direct, giving the sequel the same combination of horror, dark comedy and action that made the original so memorable.

Supergirl brings a different kind of energy to the 2026 action lineup.

Directed by Craig Gillespie, the movie follows Kara Zor-El as she joins an unlikely companion on an interstellar journey involving revenge, justice and a much more personal mission.

Milly Alcock leads the film as Supergirl, with Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Corenswet and Jason Momoa also appearing.

Finally, we have The Wrecking Crew.

This one is a little different from the rest because it was primarily released as a streaming action movie rather than becoming a major traditional theatrical box-office release.

The story follows estranged half-brothers Jonny and James, who reunite after their father’s mysterious death. Their investigation eventually puts them against dangerous criminal forces in Hawaii.

Ángel Manuel Soto directs, while Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa lead the cast.
